A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Two casts of actors 10 - 18 perform Shakespeare’s popular comedy. Thought to be written at the same time as Romeo and Juliet, the play takes place in a mythical Athens, where there is a handsome fairy king, a misguided parent, star-crossed lovers, a weaver who's transformed into a half-donkey, wood sprites and elves. The two sets of lovers become lost in a magical forest where the Fairy King and Queen and their elves are at odds, and a group of amateur actors are rehearsing “'A tedious brief scene of young Pyramus and his love Thisbe,” for Duke Theseus’ wedding celebration. Presiding over the topsy-turvy is the impish Puck.
Upstart Crows of Santa Fe are a Shakespeare troupe for young people 10 - 18. They produce workshops and uncut plays with a focus on understanding and collaboration. Casts create productions from deep explorations of Shakespeare’s language and meaning.
