The ISC has an exciting program called Long Dead But Well Read. It’s modeled on a program at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London called Read not Dead, in which actors convene on a morning, rehearse a play by a contemporary of Shakespeare’s during the day, and perform the play in the evening, script in hand.
Arden of Faversham
Arden of Faversham is, as its 1592 title page states, The Lamentable and True Tragedy of Master Arden of Faversham in Kent, who was most wickedly murdered by the means of his disloyal and wanton wife, who for the love she bare to one Mosby, hired two desperate ruffians, Blackwill and Shakebag, to kill him, wherein is showed the great malice and dissimulation of a wicked woman, the insatiable desire of filthy lust, and the shameful end of all murderers.” It sort of an Elizabethan Home Alone with a bad ending.
It has long been thought that Shakespeare had a hand in writing this play, possibly in collaboration with another writer. Come and see what you think of this theory!
